Foxy Digitalis premieres Lord Tang's Window Twins Dub Remix

"Having only been introduced to Window Twins and their wonderful new album, Wish, somewhat recently, I am thrilled to share this recent discovery with everyone by way of this absolutely stellar remix of their tune, “Thunder & Lightning,” by Lord Tang.  Window Twins are the psyched-out duo of Tim Cohen (Fresh & Onlys, Magic Trick, etc) and Jon Bernson (Exray’s, Ray’s Vast Basement, etc) and Wish is their second record together.  What is immediately obvious is that these two clearly have a gift for catchy songwriting and a knack for atypical hooks.  Their songs are timeless – almost impossible to place in any one era without disregarding some major component of what makes this music so great.  When you further consider the skillful arrangements (notably the horns contributed by Aaron Rocker, which makes Wish feel like an album created in some alternative ’60s-soul universe), it all adds up to something incredibly special.

And that’s when Lord Tang (also a recent discovery who is responsible for one of my favorite things I’ve heard this year, natch) takes it all to another level with the murky, dubbed-to-the-gills blessed-be mix of “Thunder & Lightning.”  Stripped down to its absolute core and reconstructed with hollow echoes and built on top of smoked-out riddims, Lord Tang makes this into a blissed spiritual experience.  Vocal melodies pop in-and-out while the distant guitar hooks take a backseat to the deep bass groove.  It’s so ridiculously good that I would pay good money for an entire dub version of Wish.  All hail the Tang Lord.  But that being what it is, you’d be well-advised to head over to Crash Symbols and Volar Records to pick up the album and find warm solace in the coming autumn chill.” - Brad Rose

Lord Tang remixes Window Twins @Potholes in my Blog

Window Twins is the collaborative project of Tim Cohen (The Fresh & Onlys, Magic Trick) and Jon Bernson (Exray’s, Ray’s Vast Basement). The two Bay Area musicians are gearing up to drop their sophomore full-length, Wish, on cassette on Oct. 16 via our pals at Crash Symbols. It’s also due out that same day on vinyl via Volar Records. The album is a psychedelic, trippy listen filled with echoing vocals, erratic/inventive percussion, and plenty of dense layers.

Those elements are abundant on standout track “Thunder & Lightning”, which is probably getting plenty of radio play in an alternate universe. Or, you know, any place where people appreciate straight-up good music. Anyway, Lord Tang (aka Dominic Cramp from Evangelista) laced the tune with even more psychedelia and even some dub vibes, making for a dreamy, tripped-out listen that you need to experience for yourself.

Window Twins - Two Left Feet (Video by Broken Machine Films)

Impose Magazine Video Premiere

The latest Window Twins single “Two Left Feet” outlines the pains of growing up, awakening in a dream and discovering the metamorphosis of becoming a wallflower. Brought to you from San Francisco’s musical legionnaires Jon Bernson (Exray’s, Ray’s Vast Basement) and Tim Cohen (Fresh & Onlys, Magic Trick); their hop-along-organ-&-whistle tune gets visualized as a vintage coming of age short in this premiere from Broken Machine Films.

The film opens with a funeral and a string of bad luck for our young protagonist as a broken mirror leads to shame and bewilderment to match the song’s early morning class bell confusions. Things get tense as schoolyard bullying is met with a hostile reaction with pistol turned fatal, followed by Rorschach tests, a desire to belong and a new life on the run. In a recent conversation with the video’s director and editor, Joshua Rogers, he described both his approach to gathering found film and the futility of coming-of-age escapism:

"I find most of the ephemera I use either at thrift stores, flea markets or some obscure spots online. This beauty was found on an old 8mm school film reel site about the trials and tribulations of being an adolescent….and trying in vain to escape it all. Oh to be young again."

The new Window Twins LP Wish comes out October 16 on vinyl from Volar and on cassette through Crash Symbols.
