Foxy Digitalis premieres Lord Tang's Window Twins Dub Remix
“Having only been introduced to Window Twins and their wonderful new album, Wish, somewhat recently, I am thrilled to share this recent discovery with everyone by way of this absolutely stellar remix of their tune, “Thunder & Lightning,” by Lord Tang. Window Twins are the psyched-out duo of Tim Cohen (Fresh & Onlys, Magic Trick, etc) and Jon Bernson (Exray’s, Ray’s Vast Basement, etc) and Wish is their second record together. What is immediately obvious is that these two clearly have a gift for catchy songwriting and a knack for atypical hooks. Their songs are timeless – almost impossible to place in any one era without disregarding some major component of what makes this music so great. When you further consider the skillful arrangements (notably the horns contributed by Aaron Rocker, which makes Wish feel like an album created in some alternative ’60s-soul universe), it all adds up to something incredibly special.
And that’s when Lord Tang (also a recent discovery who is responsible for one of my favorite things I’ve heard this year, natch) takes it all to another level with the murky, dubbed-to-the-gills blessed-be mix of “Thunder & Lightning.” Stripped down to its absolute core and reconstructed with hollow echoes and built on top of smoked-out riddims, Lord Tang makes this into a blissed spiritual experience. Vocal melodies pop in-and-out while the distant guitar hooks take a backseat to the deep bass groove. It’s so ridiculously good that I would pay good money for an entire dub version of Wish. All hail the Tang Lord. But that being what it is, you’d be well-advised to head over to Crash Symbols and Volar Records to pick up the album and find warm solace in the coming autumn chill.” - Brad Rose
